clear coat peeling off- help

Hi,
About 6 months ago I noticed that the clear coat is peeling off the mirrors and the brake calipers. I brought this to the attention of my Porsche dealer to be covered in the warranty, but they said that paint problems were not covered.

I don’t understand how a car that costs so much should be peeling like a white Chevy truck.

Has anyone heard of this? Are there options? Should I just pay to have the mirrors repainted?

They did however replace the entire top because the plastic had a small crack in it.
Maybe I should not complain.

The mirrors can be Wet-sand then clear coat re-applied, no need for repaint-.... the calipers, I didnt know the calipers were clearcoated from the factory. if they are, then you can clear coat that yourself, just wash the caliper 100% clean then apply more clearcoat... high-temp ofcourse.

I'm not sure if my calipers clearcoat is peeling but they look bad. About half of the caliper is nice shiny red, the other half is a dull almost orange color. Is this how yours look?

I would think it would be obvious if I just tried to re-clear them??

I would just have your mirrors repainted if the dealer wont cover them. It should only be $150.00 to 175.00 or so. As for the calipers, you could try to clear them yourself first. The worst that could happen is that you will be disappointed with the results and have to call in a pro.

Best of luck!

SC986
The half orange half red will soon turn all orange, then the brake dust will get into it because the surface is now very rough. Then they will look like mine, a black and red/orange mess.

I will try to reclearcoat them one day, my biggest problem is bleeding the brakes. I have never been able to do it correctly.

Well I guess my description was not accurate. Mine look good around the decal, the rest of the caliper are dull with no clearcoat. I think I would have to strip them, order new decals and start over.

So far I don't have any dust build up, no black spots!

As the owner of a white Chevy truck, I am outraged at your dissing of this fine vehicle. Mine is 9 yrs old and sits out 24/7/365, and the paint is perfect. :)

Maybe it’s just down here in Texas, but there are so many white Chevy trucks that the white has peeled off and the grey primer is all that is left. The damage is usually on the hood and the top of the bed.
It’s strange, but when I see that, it is always a white Chevy.

I will try to post pics of my paint problems tonight.
