3 button key head work on 2000 S?
I'm working on sourcing a replacement head for my dead 2nd key.
1st, I'm assuming from some renntech posts that i can take the blade out and put it in the new head. 2nd, I'm assuming that i can't buy a used head unless it has the tag that porsche requires for reprogramming. 3rd, since i have to spend the money, i might as well see if its something i can upgrade in the process. i've noticed the newer boxsters (not 987) have a slightly different design with the front trunk and rear trunk buttons. Are these assumptions correct? And can i buy the 3 button key head? thanks |
My 2001 has a three button head. It's falling apart, but still works.
Yes, you can swap the blade from one remote to another, but the remote (or the receiver in the car) has to be programmed to work with the car. Should be .5 to 1 hour labor at your dealer. |
anyone know for sure if the 3rd button will pop the front trunk on a 2000 S?
i'd hate to buy the key and then have a dead 3rd button. unless the dealer could program it for something else? i found a dealer by me that will program the keys for $78. seems to be quite a deal. |
If I am not mistaken only 2001 and later models had the electronic front lid. I have a 2000 base and it has the manual cable release.
Does your current FOB have a front trunk release button? |
Travis, you are correct. The solenoid for the front trunk is not installed on the -2000 cars.

thanks guys.
i guess i'll go back to looking for a less too expensive key head on the ebay. 2 buttons with tags. anyone got one around? :D |
careful with the ebay, you have to check the serial number on the key with the dealer to see if it will work.

I still gotta see if I can get a Cayenne key to work with my Box. I don't care about the rear trunk remote release... I just want the door locks and front trunk.
