Goodyear's?
mulling over my summer tire choice.
Anyone have anything to offer on F1 GS-D3's? kind of old but cool http://www.tirerack.com/images/tires/tests/CandD_gy_f1_gs_d3/CandD_gy_f1_gs_ds.pdf |
got 'em last year and have put about 4K on 'em so far. Super quiet, stick well (wet or dry) and seem to be wearing very well (no DEs or AXs). Biggest plus was installed price was something like $635 after $100 mail in rebate. Total price ended up being $400-500 cheaper than Michelin PS2 or ribs (even at Costco). Yes, they are not Porsche N rated but that doesn't bother me at all. Rumor has it they may be discontinued in the near future but who knows. I like 'em.

That's the tire I want to replace my Conti's with. I'd really like to know how they hold up to some track use (Auto x, and DE). Quiet it GOOD!
BTW, it looks as if they goofed on the Good Year's auto X graph. |
I've been very happy with my F1's. They have outperformed the Michelin's I took off, but this could've been because they were worn down. The F1's have great wet and dry traction and did pretty well at the couple autocrosses I used them for. They are quiet but I've only put 3k on them up to this point.

Hi,
Pound for Pound, $ for $, the Goodyears F1s are one of the best values out there, especially for the Boxster... Happy Motoring!... Jim'99 |
I just went out to tire rack and the 18" Goodyears are only about 100.00 cheaper than the PS2's for the set. Does anyone have a sense of how they wear compared to the PS2's.
I love the Michellins, but I am going to have to come to terms with my driving style, which, it appears, eats tires. I only have about 3K on my PS2's and I have not checkecd the tread depth with a gauge on the rear tires, but I bet they are about half way gone..... I need to be running cheaper tires! Ed  |
Great to hear that everyone likes the Goodyears. I expected to hear bad feedback when reading the title line since most Pcar guys swear by their Michelins and Pirelli's and stick with the "N" rated tires (much to the chagrin of their wallets)
I've always liked the aggressive look of these tires which doesn't mean anything. I sell Goodyear industrial products (vbelts, hose, belting, etc.), so I can get a "free tire" program. Buy 3, get 1 free, so I like the C/D article and everyone's feedback. I have the Pirelli PZero Assimetrico's now, but that's what came on it and I have been surprised at the tread life. I expected them to be almost gone now after a year and about 4k of medium/hard driving. We'll see how they fare after the Tail fo the Dragon in May! Jeff  |
Oh, almost forgot.
Goodyear did just go through a long/ugly employee union strike at the tire plants and belting plants and I believe an ownership change. Not sure how this could affect availability and product changes. Jeff  |
Ditto on the positive responses. Have had mine for a year and a half, with only about 2k miles on them.

Just curious do they squeal at or near the limit? My conti's are deathly quiet untill you pull a 180

I got 6000 miles out of my last rear set of F1 GS-D3s. I have had no issues other than that. They seem to work well.
