How to remove front vents

Does anyone know how to remove the front vents from the front bumper of a 2000 Boxster? They have faded and I want to paint them. Many Thanks.

Now if we can only find someone with the answer. On a separate note, I just painted my Calipers red with the G2 Caliper Kit and it came out great. Then I got the White Porsche Decals to put the words back on. Huge Difference from the Grey color I previously had.

You need to remove the bumper. I found this link on how to remove bumper:

I also heard that Krylon black plastic spray paint is good for the faded plastic vents. I bought a can but I have not had time to work on it. If you do it soon, will you please post pics and advice? Thanks!

The vents just pop out the back of the bumper cover. That's the good news. The bad news is you have to take the bumper cover off first. The good news is, you can use the opportunity to clean the junk out of your radiators while you have the bumper cover off. Further good new is that it comes off very easily in like 10 minutes, and goes right back on the same way. It's not nearly as intimidating as it looks.



I've also seen it done this way, but I wouldn't recommend it...

Wow, that's definitely more involved than I had anticipated. I always get really nervous about doing things like removing body pieces... I just haven't done it enough to feel confident about it. Ah well, guess there's no other way to get used to it than to do it. Hopefully this weekend I'll finish up my wheels (and post pics) as well as do this (and post pices)

i had my bumper off the other day as well to clean out the crap from the radiators.
taking the bumper is wa too simple. should take about 15 mins or so, and it will give you a chance to clean up behind there.

Let's be honest,it takes more then 15 minutes to take the bumper off. The hard part is aligning everything when putting the bumper back on. Changing the vents & cleaning the radiators are easy and take very little time when the bumper is off.

I'm in agreement with this post, it's easier with two although one can do it. The process has to be done slowly, the potential for scratching the cover is abundant. I made register marks in key spots to aid in the reassembly.

I realize this is a Boxster forum, but you can't post a picture that shows only a glimpse of that green Mach 1 in the background. I need to see a better shot.

Just an FYI.

Fading grill inserts was a TSB issue on the early 987's. The TSB# is W608. And would be replaced under warranty.

Seriously?! A TSB for faded paint?! That's a riot!
We live with various causes of catastrophic engine failure in our Boxster and there is a TSB for faded paint, wow.

I'll give a +1 on the bumper job, removal is not difficult, hardest part were those annoying little plastic fasteners in the wheel well liner. It really is much easier to put back on if you have another set of hands. I used that same tutorial linked above, I was actually able to do it with out removing the wheels, but I have skinny arms.

Kabel, there is a TSB too for a missing washer on the exhaust tip (W574). True, I am not making this stuff up!

Doubt I'd have to remove the wheels... I have tiny girls arms afterall, hehehe.

Hm, who can I rope into helping me with this... Unfortunately I suffer from "Know It All Boyfriend" syndrome. IE, if I ask him to help me with something, he'll just do it all and never let me do anything, all the while talking to me like I'm the cute little 10 year old trying to help mommy and daddy do grown up things.

Anyway, I hate having to ask someone for help, because then when I **************** up, someone is there to see it all happen. At least if it's just me I can curse a lot and do my best to fix it without being embaressed.
