loosing coolant

June 1999 build date. Engine replaced 9/04, 38K miles. Mass air sensor 11/05 47K miles. Final drive seals and tranmission fluids replaced 6/06 50K miles. Coolant bottle replaced 8/06 52K. Coolant light came on just as I was getting home. I checked the coolant bottle and none was visable. After it cooled I refilled. I took it out for a drive and within a mile it was overheating. Got back and the bottle was empty again. I checked the carpet in the trunk and it is dry as is the garage floor. I plan on having it towed to the dealer tomorrow. Any SERIOUS thoughts comments?

Has the oil level been rising?

Any sweet smelling white smoke from the tail pipes?

No white smoke. I just checked the oil level and it is a little above full.

garyj, keep an eye on the oil level, and the apperance of the underside on the oil filler cap.

When I got home I filled the coolant and idled the car for 10 minutes and nothing. No leak and the temp guage hardly moved. I decided to drive it around the block and within .25 miles the water temp elevated so I stopped to take a look. I had a steady stream of coolant flowing by the right rear tire. Can anyone speculate on what has happened? What am I getting myself into to correct this problem. Is it time to move on and start looking for a new ride?

Don't drive it anymore and get to a qualified Porsche mechanic.

Might be as simple as a bad hose or hose clamp....

The Porsche mechanic at my dealership is out for training this week. I'm making arrangements to have it towed on Friday. Thanks to everyone who took the time to comment.

Hi,

Most likely a coolant hose/clamp issue, though with a drain that fast, I suspect the Reservoir again even though you already replaced it...

Happy Motoring!... Jim'99
