Placement of GPS...?
I'm getting a TomTom 510 GPS (4.2 x 3.1 x 2.5) and wonder if there's any snazzy place that I could mount it -- semi-permanent. Suggestions appreciated.

I don't know what year you have, but I always thought as long as the heating/ac control is above your stereo (up to MY 2000 and 2003/4), it could be mounted on a custom board where the cubby holes are located. Of course, that means that the tom tom has to have the capability to support an external gps receiver.

I use the MioA701 and it's very handy in this position
I have wired in a female cig lighter under the dash, and plugged in the charger....no hanging cords!

I put my TomTom right under the mirror so it is easy to see, but in reality I usually just follow the voice command, you can get an external antenne and mount it lower as suggested above, so give it a try and see what works for you.
Goos luck

Hey FIG I bet you got a hell of a deal on your Boxster considering they screwed up and put the steering wheel on the wrong side.

Thanks for jinxing me -- so now I just have to relocate my GPS.
Okay, as a project for a rainy Sunday, today I decided to permanently install my 4" TomTom in the shelf-compartment (whatever it's called) underneath the radio. It's amazing what you can do with a dremel tool.

Well, that sticker came with the shift knob, and my GF thought it looked good (with the red R) so she stuck it there.

Great spot Peer!
A custom surround would really make that look factory! IMHO anyways
