strange noise in dash

hi guys
I have recently bought a 2002 2.7 box with 80k , in beautifull condition.
I would sure like an opinion , I have a noise that sounds like a coffee machine , not to loud but can hear it over tickover , appears to come from passenger side dash, maybe air in aircon pipes or maybe sticking relay. noise starts when ignition is switched on. I have operated all elect controls in the cabin , makes no change. apart from that little prob I absolutely love this car its a real buzzzzzzz.
thanks kezz

You sure it's not the ventilation system fan? They can get really noisy.

check out this thread i started, you might have the same issue. foam clogging your flaps.

a possible temporary fix is put the fan on full blast and hope the foam chunks move through the system and eventually out the vents (hopefully not in your eyes)

i still have that noise happen every once in a while

There is a small fan and a temp sensor for the automatic climate control system behind a small round circular cutout on the passenger side dash board. At about the same location as the ignition key on the drivers side.

It could be a piece of foam stuck in the 'hamster wheel' blower fan. The fan is located on the passenger side of the dash. It's not very difficult to check, it takes maybe 20-30 minutes, and most of it is reinstalling one plastic piece.

Here is the DIY I used, unfortunately some of the pictures are gone:

Is the noise still there when the a/c is off and the snowflake isn't showing climate control display. If it stops, it could be your a/c expansion valve.

You can try to trouble shoot by pulling some of the possible system fuses from the fuse panel and see if it goes away when 1 is pulled out.
