986 magnetic badge

Is anyone interested in a magnetic 986 badge? I just got through taking off the "Boxster" badge and adding the "986". I thought it would be a lot easier to add magnetic numbers instead of the self adhesive ones. I could play with different spacing and stuff and even go without a badge if I wanted.

Anyway, I just purchased some "car magnet" material and I'm gonna look into getting "9" "8" "6" die cutters made that are the same font as the 968 badges we purchase to make our 986. I would also like to have a die of the special "S" .

If the dies cost way too much I'm not gonna do anything, but if they are cost effective, I just wondered if there was any interest out there.

Man it would be nice to have "Boxster" "Speedster" "986" and "986S" badge magnets out there.....

I did the same thing with a Jesus fish @ SuperChrist.com

Depending on how large you went, I'd guess the dye would cost around $50 (if you went the "986S" route -"Boxster" or "Speedster" would require a considerably larger dye). The fun question is, what kind of material would you be using for the letters? There's brushed aluminum that may look good. I, myself, enjoy anything reflective. Since I love monochromatic schemes, reflective color to match the color of your car would be really cool. Plus, at night with headlights blazing your car's rear, the logo/emblem would REALLY stand out.

Send me a PM if you want the info of the guy who did my dye or to see photos of how the the reflective shows up at night.

Hey brother....nice to know there's another christian-porsche-owner on the board. Seeing the response I got (or lack thereof ;) ) I'm not gonna look into getting the die made right now. I did order the black magnetic material and I'm gonna try and trace the numbers with an exacto knife. If I get it near-perfect, I'll post some pics of them.

I would actually need 2 dies (a "9" and an "8")...the "6" is just an upsidown "9".

I like your fish!!!!

If you ordered some 986 (or 968 actually) numbers, you could use those as stencils to put over your magnetic material to trace with the exacto.

Your idea is interesting and I wonder how it would do on eBay...

I'm pretty sure I have access to numbered dyes. Unless they're too big, I may stamp a set out for you if you'd like. -However, knowing the use of these dyes, the font will probably something "western" lookin', and I reckon that wouldn't cut it on a one of them there Porsheys.

I'm glad you like the fish! (People in Norway love them too, they buy the most.)

Find someone with a Gerber plotter (a sign shop should have this) then have your letters/numbers cut on the plotter. If you take them the file in a vector format it will take less than ten minutes from start to finish. You could also have them cut holographic or any number of other specialty vinyls using the same file and stick that directly on the cut magnet. If the shop has a Gerber Edge they can print it before they cut it as well.
