What are these wheels?

I have these for race wheels that I want to get to painting today:

First, I'm not 100% sure what these ones are called, anyone know?

I'm asking because I'm trying to find out what type of metal they are, so that I don't use a chemical that will be too harsh on it.

Thanks for the help!

Edit: I believe they are Porsche 993 Cup II Wheels? But I can't seem to find what those are made of.

They look like C2 Cup wheels off of 993.

That's what I thought after looking around online this morning too... now to figure out what they are made of.

I know almost nothing about wheels except what I have learned on the fly this morning.

Edit: Alright... I'm thinking they are cast aluminum

Yep, they are just painted with a base coat/clear coat just like the rest of the car.

You can sand them and repaint.

You can have them blasted (some say walnut shells are the best, but never use sand) then paint.

Some of us just take them to our local powder coater and pay about $70 bucks a wheel....

BTW they look great on a 924S:

Thanks for the help! That answers my questions then :)

I'm probably the brokest Porsche owner ever, hehe. I gotta scrape and save for everything I buy for the car, so unfortunately taking them to get done someplace is outta the question at this point. And since they are just my race wheels (and I kindda want to do them black with a pink lip) I'm just going to do them myself.

black centers with pink lip? that would be kinda cool.

but y dont you paint you calipers pink too?

btw, theres a girl that drives a fast STI and she has her wheels panted hot pink on a silver car, looks pretty sweet.

Sounds like a very cool weekend project!! Don't forget to post pics!

I am going to do the calipers too, just not right now. It's all gonna look great with my pink helmet and pink numbers, haha. I love it.

Anyway, I managed to do a VERY detailed cleaning on one wheel before the fact that our landlord hasnt turned our hose water back on got annoying. I got tired of walking in and out to get buckets of clean water. So instead I've brought the one clean one inside to begin the sanding... I'll take as many pictures as I can and keep you posted :)
