What's Your Dealer's Service Labor Rate?

I'm new to the Porsche warranty service world, the '03 Boxster I recently bought is under warranty until the end of the year. My M3 has been serviced at an independent shop for years ($90/hr), and my 914 is serviced at a shop with a low labor rate ($50/hr), but they don't have the latest Porsche diagnostic stuff, so there's a limit to what they can do.

I was talking with my dealer (Scottsdale Porsche) yesterday about a non-warranty install, and they quoted me $190 for 1.5 hours of labor - $127 / hr. Is that the going rate these days?

Yeah, it's cheaper than a lawyer's rate, I know, and my stockbroker recently tried to charge me for services that would have worked out to about $350/hr, so I guess I shouldn't complain.....

It really varies by dealer. For example, I live in NYC, but service my car in NJ because NYC dealer charges $175/hr. One NJ dealer I went to charged $137/hr, while another one a town or two away charges $115/hr. Shop around the dealers in your state is all I can say.

Niello Porsche,$100/hour. All the indie shops that work on P-cars around here are $98/hour,but there is on traveling P-car 'renegade' mechanic that works for $65/hour.

$235/hr? Ouch. That's about what my endodontist charged per hour for my triple root canal - but at least in that case screaming in pain was all part of the deal....

That's funny! My very good friend is an Endo Specialist. He owns 2 airplanes a Harley, couple cars, two homes, 5 acres for a future 3rd. home, 4 snow mobiles, and 6 ATV's. Works 4 days per week. Monday-Thursday. Cash only at time of service. Accepts no insurance. But, bottom line he is a great doctor, father and husband. Very humble.

Beverly Hills Porsche charged $115/hour when I first bought my car in 2001. It has gone up every year since then. I believe they are now at $165/hour.

Yeah, Beverly Hills Porsche is $155 last I checked. But it's been a few months.

My go-to guy is a Porsche Specialist in Santa Monica that charges $100 I think, and I trust him infinitely more than the stealership. The few times I've been there he's had one or two Ferraris sitting on the lifts, but it's always a Porsche that he's taking his time with

Wait wait.....dealers do more than just sell me my overpriced parts?

I have yet to visit the local stealership for repairs. Hope I never need to. When I was in Idaho I religiously used Motorsports Northwest. The owner was PCA member of the year back in 1996. He was a cool guy.
