Camshaft Sensors (P1397)

I have a 98 Boxster, and the CEL came on and I checked the code and it was a P1397 (camshaft sensors)

My car has 21,000 miles. It was fine when I put it away in December, started it in February and the CEL came on. The car runs fine, no problems at all.

Any suggestions?

Clear the code and if it's running fine just drive it and see if the code returns.

I cleared the code, drove it around, and it was fine, no CEL.

Started the car the next day and the CEL came on with the same code again.

Hi,

******************** Can the attitude ok? We're not here just for your personal convenience! I should just tell you to go to the Dealer, but I won't. It's the CPS 2 that's throwing the code. That Cam Position Sensor code can be caused by several things.

It could actually be the CPS gone bad, a poor or corroded CPS electrical connector, a bad OČ Sensor on the 2nd Bank (Cyl. 4-6), or just a tank of sour Gas - did you add Stabil prior to Storage?

I suggest running a can of Jectron through the Gas Tank, if that doesn't help, continually top up the Tank with Fresh Gas to dilute the stuff that's in there. If that doesn't work, take it to a Shop...

Happy Motoring!... Jim'99

Jim has excellant advice and I would just to add that if the check engine light starts to flash then by no means drive or run the car.... just get it towed to the dealer or good independant garage. Hopefully it's an easy fix.

Sorry for the attitude, just upset about my car.

I went to dealer already, and of course they come up with the worst case scenario they can think of. So I left, and went off on my own.

I did not add stabil or anything. I get some the jectron and new gas. See what happens. I tried to access that rear sensor and I must have spent 4 hrs and got no where, I couldnt even get my hand in there to remove anything.
