Tire question

Hi All:

I got a flat tire this morning and when I took it in to get it fix ($25 bucks!!), I was thinking of getting a whole new set since they are about 4 years old and there is no roadside assist with them.

I have the classic 17" wheels on my 2000 Boxster S. My question is what is the largest size tire for front and rear that I can put on? And most importantly, what brand of tire should I go with? Bridgestone (S-03), Michelin (Pilot), Goodyear, etc...

Should I buy from the TireRack?

Thanks!

Tire Size?
The largest tire size for wheel wells is 245-265 up front and 265-285 in back. The highest number is a range - because it does depend on the tire.

No need to go over 265 in Back - my 02S can't spin high quality 265s in a straight line.

Tire size is limited by wheel width and the Boxster wheel well. Check on tire rack to be sure, but I think 245 will be the maximum front tire width for your 7-inch wide front wheels. You will feel a big difference between 205 and 245 in front. If you like corners, DE or autocross you want the biggest front tire that will fit!

I am a BIG fan of the Yokohama AVS ES100. This tire wears quickly(18-20K front, 8-10K rear) but grips real nice. VERY quiet. Excellent in the rain. Better turn-in than all but the most expensive tires (Pilot Sport Cup). Better (and less expensive) than any Boxster original equipment tire. Good looking tread pattern. We use them on all 3 family cars.

Buy from tire rack?
I have had excellent service from TireRack. They set the standard for low prices. I buy the road hazard warrantee with all new tires - it's cheap insurance.
