Headlights are dim.

I just picked up a '00 2.7 Boxster. At the time, I saw the headlights during the day and they seemed fine. However, at night, the headlights turn on but are so dim that I cannot see the road. Currently, I am driving with the foglights.

What do dim headlights mean? Is it electronic, requiring a trip to the dealer/mechanic? Or can it just be old bulbs? It doesn't look like the headlight housing is dirty or anything. I have standard, non-litronic lights.

Thanks

I hate to sound like captain obvious, but are the lights on all the way, there is a setting where all you see are dim lights.

Is it different with the key on versus with it off [taken out].

I had the same problem. My problem was the ignition, once the car is running try an turn the key toward the off position but only about two mm and check them then that is what I had to do to get my lights to work up until last week when I had the ignition replaced.
