Boxster in car vid from Laguna Seca

Thanks to the help of EPIQ Autosport we have completed our build of a Boxster Spec Racer. This is a spec car based on the 1997 to 1999 2.5L platform. You can gut the car but with full cage you must have a minimum weight of 2700lbs with driver. PSS9's and adjustable swaybars front and rear are allowed, as are stiffer springs (450lbs front / 500lbs rear).

We've been testing the car at Sears Point and Laguna Seca the last 2 months. The car is really alot of fun to drive, exceeding all expectations. Due to the great handling, we are very competitive with higher HP cars. I'll attach some pics of the car and also you can see an in car video of our "EPIQ SPEQ" Boxster chasing down a 290HP Porsche 914-6 through the Laguna Seca Corkscrew. The higher HP cars pull us on the straights, but once in the turns, we can eat them up.

Enjoy!

That's very cool. But you never caught up to that 914? Did you guys pass him? That would have been nice to see.

That was the next to last lap of the session. We did not have a chance to get by him during that session.

This weekend we will post more in-car video of the car running with the Viper Club this Friday, March 16th at Buttonwillow Raceway. If anyone is in the area, come on by and say hello. Let's see how our little motor matches up against those big snakes!

@ Bill,

Have you guys put in the 3rd radiator and the 'S'/996 oil cooler since it's a track car?

Bill Pickering 03-13-2007 03:56 PM

For better cooling we have added the 996 center radiator.

Here are some pictures. The install was pretty easy. At the same time we fitted up the GT3 nose.

Thanks,

Bill P.

Fun video, awesome pix! Nice job. That looked like lots of fun!

I don't get to see a lot of tracks, but I've explored Laguna Seca before. Because of that, it's one of my favorites on Gran Turismo.

Very Cool :) I'm getting that vid off to my son asap...he owns a 914 and a 99' Box...he will love it. Would love to see some more of your adventures! I recently watched a video of a Cayman chasing a Viper, and totally catching up on the corners, so good luck with the "snakes" this week-end!!! Wish I could be there :(

Center Radiator

Hey Bill,
You know where can I find a DIY on placing a center radiator on the 2.5L? It looks fairly easy and I'd like to try it too. Also, where did you get your GT bumper cover? Thanks,

Justin

Hi Justin,

I used this article to help me with the center radiator install. It was a pretty straightforward setup. One thing I did do was disconnect the A/C condensors from radiators and pulled them away from the radiators and supported them with jackstands. I didn't disconnect the A/C fittings. This allowed easier access to the radiator lines.

As for the nose, I went to GT Motorport for it.

EPIQ Autosport can also help you with sourcing a nose for the car.

Thanks and Best Regards,

Great video. Man, with all that torque, he really walks away when things straighten up!

Great to see the chassis technology improve from 914 to 986.

Another option for cooling...

Anyone seen this one or used it before. It's made for our boxsters.

This is what it says:
Secondary Water Cooler Kit
More power equals more heat. Protect your modified engine with this secondary water cooler which can reduce operating water temperature by up to 60 Degrees. Kit includes all required hardware. Fits Boxsters from 97 on. Importe from Germany.
