Was Porsche the First???
I was just wondering if Porsche was the first car manufacturer to develop a spoiler that automatically rises up and down after a certain speed? Any one know for sure? AND, were they the first to make it into a production car for public sale. So, basically I'm excluding race type cars. Only production sold cars. Was the Boxster the first? ;)

I would think it was the 996/986... but a buddy tells me that the 94+ Mitsu 300GT had an automatic spoiler...

Actually, it came out on the '91 Mitsu 3000GT - activated at 90kph or about 56MPH... Happy Motoring!... Jim'99 |
And the 993 had an active spoiler... when was the 993 out? '91ish??

The speed sensitive wing was first seen on the '89 C2s and C4s.

The VW Corrado was out in 1988 and had such a feature.

Good Memory, I forgot about the Corrado (really a 3rd Gen Sirroco). They featured an active rear spoiler which automatically raised when the car reached 45MPH on U.S spec models and I think 65MPH on ROW models... Happy Motoring!... Jim'99 |
