Rear bumper cover repair...

I had a small piece of tree branch kicked under the Boxster by a truck in the adjacent lane. It wedged between the muffler and the bumper cover, cracking the edge of the bumper. It is about 5 inches long near where the lip curves up near the muffler, so it is not really visible except from under the car. I would like to mend it to keep the crack from spreading. Any idea what would be best to bod the crack with?

Thanks,

J. Tucker

Do you have pictures? Pictures always help.

I will try to take some this evening. It will be hard to get w/o getting the car on a lift. I haven't actually seen the damage yet myself, just felt it when I pulled the offending tree branch out.

Thanks,

If the crack can't be seen from normal angles and the intent is to stop any spread, you have a wide choice of repair methods. Fiberglass resin and the matting it comes with will stick to the urethane just fine...

Looks like I was wrong...

I think that the edge of the painted urethane cover is just abraided at the edge not cracked. Here is a pic I took by pointing the camera under the car...let me know what you think.

Thanks,

It's very tough to tell from the pic you posted but it does not look like there is damage that is going to spread. There is a product for Boxsters called the boomerang which essentially is a bumper cover skid plate, you could consider that but I don't think you need it either. I know how passionate we are for our Porsches, maybe you should drop by a local body shop to ease your mind, personally based on the pic, I'd just leave it and be thankful it wasn't worse.
