WTB Black hardtop
I just bought a 2000 black Boxster and off the bat, I want to put a hardtop on. I have not even sat in the car yet, just like the look. If anyone has any advise on where to pick up a top (pref. black), please let me know

maxferran,
Congratulation and welcome to the forum ! I used to have a bunch of friends in Mandeville ( I went to the University of Alabama - been to Mardi Gras 5 times ) I was going to suggest www.craigslist.org but I did a search and all I found is a guy willing to trade a 1988 924S for a Tri Axle Dump truck : http://neworleans.craigslist.org/search/sss?query=porsche I know you can buy a new one from Park Place Porsche in Dallas for $3k : http://porsche.parkplacestores.com/boxsterhardtop.html Hope this helps... Nick, I appreciate the welcome. Believe it or not, I went to The University of Alabama myself graduated summer 2005 in healthcare management. I do not know too many people up here in mandeville but I know a few from school, I am originally from New Orleans.
I went by the dealership today and they quoted 4k for the top, so I told them I can deal with the wind in my face for the beautiful months and might see them again in november. I don't particularly need a hardtop, but I never drop the top on my fiance's solara. I am told the boxster experience is different and I will want it open. Anyway, I fly in to dallas friday to pick up the car. I will see after that. I already bought my litronics, clear tails, clear markers, clear sides, and new pedals. |

I bid 1001.01 and it still says I did not meet reserve. Proxy bidding has me at 810..

Buying a used top is the way to go. It seems that popular colors command higher prices (Artic Silver, Black). Painting will cost $400 to $600. Spring is probably a good time to buy.
I bought one on Ebay and it was damaged in shipping. Here are some points worth considering: 1. Insure the item. 2.. Get good pictures from the seller before it is shipped so you can documet the preshipped condition. Print and save the Ebay listing and pictures if you buy it there. 3 Carefully inspect the item when you pick it up. Note any damage on the freight bill when you sign it and report the claim to the freight company claims office asap. I was able to get the freight company to pay for repairs and paint which cost almost $800. I found out that repairing aluminum is more expensive than normal sheet metal. I had to make sure I found a shop that was willing and capable of doing the work. I actuall came out ahead since I was going to have to paint the top anyway. You will need to buy and install spin locks. You will find a number of threads on this subject here. Congratulations on you purchase and good luck on the hardtop. |
If the reserve is higher than $1,000, I'd just keep looking or buy one that's a different color and have it painted. I've seen hardtops sell on eBay for as little as $600.

Hey Spyder, you are right about that one being special, it changes the whole look of the car in a good way. Unforntunetly, it is out of my league. Thank you Norman and Thumper too for the replies.
Spyder, I saw you are from dallas. I go get the car tommorow morning at the dallas airport and will be driving it back to New Orleans. |
heres my top
If you were closer I would sell you mine because I maybe use it 1 week a year if that. It just hangs in my garage. I must say when you have it on, it feels like a totally different car
