Wtb 9x7 shifter

Wtb low mileage 9x7 shifter for my 2001Boxster S.

Thanks
Found a 49k 997 shifter so I’m good, if possible please remove the thread although the private messages have been interesting 🤨

Ebay has some in the $200 range. I was shopping them and ended up with a cheap short shifter kit. The 987 is likely smoother but with a bit more slop.

Shifter

Thanks for the reply, I’m probably headed in the same direction as you went, maybe bens shifter.

Ben's is quality. I had to tweak mine to make it work but I didn't invest in Ben's because I did not know if I would like it. He has a real cool tall shifter with a round shaft that can use aftermarket knobs.

I bought the ebay special for about $50, it was a pain to install as even though it said it was for a 986 I had to modify a bunch of things to fit it in. After that, I found that it was WAY too short of a throw (don't want to wreck the synchro's) so I've modified it again to make it less short. Probably about 20% less than stock, rather than the 40%+ that it is by default. I'll probably go with Ben's as a replacement.

Educate my on how a short shifter can hurt the tranny. The bottom lever is longer which means the handle does not have to move as far. Is it not going into gear properly?

A highly respected Porsche mechanic warned me that it was too short, that you need to be 'gentle' with the shifting. After reducing the 'shortness' of the ebay shifter, I would say it's not noticeably longer in throw, but it is smoother. Purely subjective, but it feels better.

I shift like a geezer anyway! Im not crazy about the feel of mine. I found a deal on a 987 shifter today. I may put the upgraded bushings on it for tightness. I will update you on the outcome.
