Wanted: 986 airbag deactivation bar / child car seat

Our son is 3 and I'd like to be able to travel with him in our 2000 Porsche Boxster 986. So we need to deactivate the airbag. From research this appears to be possible with the deactivation bar and a child's car seat.

Does anyone have a bar and the buckle all the entire kit they'd like to sell?

Many thanks

Porsche Make OFFER 1993 98 911 993 Child Seat Deactivation Bar 99380358300 | eBay

There's no buckle with this one, but it would be easy to fabricate one. I'm glad to send you the dimensions from mine.

Keep in mind that the Porsche seat is held in place by the seatbelt and the seat-bottom bolsters. Have you tried out your child seat in the Boxster yet? You may have to find a different one.

I could certainly ship you the measurements of the buckle, but you'll have to ask the seller about the bar. (I can't imagine it will be much, though.)

There is a fellow in the UK who makes a "clone" device that performs the same function as the Porsche bar: Porsche Airbag de Activator Alternative to Bar and Child Seat Boxster 911 | eBay
This device does not require a buckle, so it will work with any seat as it is.

Keep in mind that your Porsche dealer will have to reprogram the car to recognize the bar or switch gizmo. Best call them and make certain that they can/will do that before investing in it.

I modified a 944 buckle, but someone recently posted that porsche shop uk is selling a buckle for not much more than I ended up paying for the 944 buckle and the beer to borrow a friend and his dremel to shape it. Still have to get the bar, of course, which also requires longer bolts - Pelican sells them.

Porsche child seat or buckle wanted

Hi. I am also buying the airbag bar but am looking for a used seat or at least just the buckle that goes with it. The new Porsche seats are very expensive. Let me know if anyone out there has either a Porsche seat or just the buckle that they would like to sell. Thanks!

Porscheshop.co.uk sells a dummy buckle - probably your best bet. Then use any seat you want.

FYI that I did buy the clip from porscheshop.co.uk and the bar from sun coast. Bar was about $270 and the clip was about $50. Had the dealer install the bar for about $220 including the programming. Indy said they had never done one before but could probably do it they just weren't sure they had access to enable it in the computer as some functions are only available to the dealers. They thought it would be around $200 anyway so I just decided to go to the dealer for the install since I knew they could program it. Glad I bought the part though as dealer wanted over $400 for the bar! Anyway all told I spent around $550 for peace of mind when having my younger kids in the car. The airbag is now easily disabled (airbag light blinks for 60 seconds then goes off). Works perfectly. FYI that one of the dealers I called would not do the work due to liability. But the other one had no problem with it.

Question on Child Seat -- Help please

The vendor in the UK that sold the switch to emulate the Airbag Deactivation Bar has dropped off the map, so I'm going to build my own. It's just 4 resistors and and Double Pole, Single Throw (DPST) switch (see attachment). Once I have it built I'd like to make sure that I did it right and won't damage the airbag system in my 986S.

Could someone in possession of the Deactivation Bar plug a multimeter into the output from the buckle and let me know the resistance (ohms) with and without the buckle inserted?

Many thanks

I have a Porsche child seat WITH deactivation bar which I would like to sell. My granddaughter has grown too large for it.

Please send me a personal message if you're interested. (I doubt that sending it to NL would be worth it, however. )

Send Pm, perhaps the bar itself might be shippable?
