Hello, new owner of 2001 Silver S. I am so excited and enjoying the car very much. OK so now to the point. I bought the car with a hardtop, I do not think that I will ever use it. What is the value of a used top? It is in near new condition silver in color.
i just purchased an Arctic silver here on the east coast in very good condition for $950. Most hardtops are in really good shape as they were not used very often by the owners. As others have said you can list it locally on CL and allow room for lowballers, or list it here for a fair price and someone will pick it up without much fuss.
Most Boxster owners looking to add a hardtop will be happy just finding one the same color as their car. Since you have an S, you can see if the hardtop is an S or base hardtop. The S hardtop will have a rear window exterior trim with black and titanium, same as the S windshield exterior trim. The base hardtop will have all black trim around the rear window. When I bought my hardtop it was an S hardtop which was perfect for me since I have an S. But I didn't know at the time and would have bought it either way. The hardtops are the same other than that. Just a bit of minutiae. Good luck with the sale if you decide to sell it.
