When you say "hand activated" does that mean that the LED is activated when a sensor is triggered or is there a "button"??? Also how difficult is the install (I'm new to Porsche so I'm trying not to tear anything up )

See here for details. DIY Motion activated storage cubby lights

The LEDs automatically turn on when you put your hand in the bin. The bins slide right in and out - no tools needed for that part.
Power is 12V, so the unit has a red and a black wire that need to be hooked up to power. There is a 12V auxiliary plug for the factory phone option directly under the bin slots in your car.

You know, I've never checked. I'm not sure that the upper slots have the proper fittings, but I'll check it out.

Physically, it fits, but there isn't anything to hold it in place and you would need to customize a trim piece due to gaps on the top and bottom.

I wonder if I could use the framework of the cup holders to hold the cubby ? The cup holders are worthless so I have no problem hacking them up. Let me know what you find out on if it will fit the top slot. Thanks

It won't fit without some modification to the car (the bin is too wide).
It may fit in slot #2 (counting down with the uppermost slot being #1), but I can't confirm and removing my stereo would require some more serious work.

hey particlewave, was wondering if you still had the upper bin that would replace the cd tray?

Sorry, but this is my last one. I didn't find enough interest to keep buying and converting them.

no worries, was actually looking for a regular bin to replace the cd tray, than I came across this that's much cooler. If you decide to sell, please let me know

I just found this illuminated bin in a box in my closet.
I'd like to get rid of it...

Still for sale!

I read the post that its for the lower slot. which slot does it fit? CD Holder or Climate control? I like it to replace the CD holder because i cannot move the climate control due to the face plate.

My current set up is

Cupholder
Radio
CD holder
Climate control
