WTB - Strut Insulators/Top Plates/Domed Washer Thingies
I'm preparing to install PSS9's on my car. To minimize downtime, I was hoping to first build up the PSS9's with new mounts/bearings/hardware, then pull the old strut/spring units, chuck them in a box, and bolt in the PSS9's. Well I just discovered those little curved washer things (PN 996-343-107-03) cost $40 each, and I need 6 of them!!!
Seriously, where are the Chinese copycat operations when you need them? You could drive a nicer Porsche than mine by selling 5 cent funny-shaped washers for $20 each. Anyway, if anybody has a set I'd be willing to pay $50 shipped. Otherwise I will just have to tear down my old struts and swap them over. Thanks! |
Those are crazy!!! Check with Woody, forum name: itsnotanova, Woody's Parts LLC (512) 925-9171
How come you only need 6 instead of 8? Each strut has 2 and you have 4 struts. Are you doing some camber plates or something in the front? Then when you are done, you can sell your old ones and make back your $50  |
The PSS9's don't use the OEM bump stops, so they only need the topside washer in the rear.
I'm trying to keep the OEM units intact in case the coilovers are too aggressive for me, or if a future buyer wants to drive a hard bargain ;-) |
I think the 2 big cupped washers are to buffer the rubber bushing in the strut top mount and doesn't have anything to do with the bumpstop, without the bottom one you will drive the rubber strut top bushing down onto the strut shaft and bottom the strut top nut on the end of the threads. Unless the PSS9 rear mount has something at the top to prevent this :) I have never seen the top of one in person so I don't know :)
PSS9 is supposed to be a really great upgrade, I bet you will really like it! |

Thanks for looking out for me Steve. I have no prior experience with boxster struts and was just going from the PSS9 installation manual, which indicates I only need 6 of them. I'll do a little more digging to confirm this.
Woody again came through and was able to sell me a set of 8 for a bargain price! |

I'm looking at the 996 PSS9 manual which has the same style of top and it uses all 8. When you get to that point in the install, post up some pictures and we can look at it with you. |
Check with a dealer to see if they are sold each or as a pair
FYI @ Gauden Porsche parts . Com (remove the spaces) they are $32.65 |
ECS TUNING has them for $22 each.
