WTB: Arctic Silver Hood and Brake Resevoir
After a deer destroyed my current hood, it looks like I'm going to be in need of a few parts. First off, the hood. Hinges were not thrown off track, so it should just be as simple as dropping a new one in, but I need body repair first. So if anyone has a lead on a hood, it would be greatly appreciated.
Second, the deer smashed my brake reservoir. Not the master cylinder, that seems intact. But the plastic part is completely destroyed. If anyone has one of those without the master cylinder, it'd be greatly appreciated. The car in its current state: http://i.imgur.com/AfOU16z.jpg |
Good move!
Your car does not look to have too much damage and the color of the car is kind of a common color, hopefully Woody has one for you. Good luck getting her back on the road! |
Here is a hood in Arctic silver on eBay for $525 delivered from my favorite eBay parts seller; Quality Porsche Parts. Shipping is free and their descriptions are very accurate.
They are also selling the tank you need for $75 but it has a torn rubber cover. Not sure if that matters. |
A good PDR guy should be able to get that hood taken care of. ;)
I have a reservoir in my storage. I'll find it and get a pic tonight if you are still looking. I think it's in good condition. |
Thanks for the leads! I'll check around some more. And yes I will need the reservoir
|
Rob, here's what I found:
http://986forum.com/forums/uploads02...1466908678.jpg You think you just need this plastic reservoir?: http://986forum.com/forums/uploads02...1466908747.jpg I think it will just pull out, but I don't want to pull that hard until I get confirmation...? Maybe best to just send the master cyl with it. |
that looks about right. I'm not entirely sure how it comes out, I can't really get to mine until I can get the hood off. And I can't get the hood off until later today when someone can help me so I don't scratch my paint up. I believe it just lifts off.
|
I'll go attempt to rip mine off when I get the chance, because mine's already broken, so it's not like I can do a lot of damage.

Looks like the reservoir plastic broke off inside the master cylinder, so I'll likely need both.
|
You don't need the master cylinder

However, since your reservoir broke inside the master, just remove the broken part first (even if means removing the rubber grommet), then re-insert the rubber grommet on the master cylinder and then re-install the new (or used) plastic reservoir. My Alfa Romeo (and Fiat) has the same type of reservoir/master and I have done this a few times, you should not have any issues afterwards. |
Still need a hood?
Did you find a hood yet? I have a spare one that has not been repaired as the 03 from Quality had, but it does have a fair amount of rock chips. If you still need one, I'll take some pics.
Let me know, thanks, Joe |
So should I just shove a screwdriver into the gap between the cylinder and grommet and pry?

Okay, does anyone know if this hood will fit my 1997 model?:
|
The PET seems to indicate that all the hoods are the same from 97-2004. The hood latch mechanism changes part numbers after 2001, but the hood appears to be the same part number.

Got all the messages and the $$$. That tube comes out by pushing in the grey ring while you pull out the tube. Mrs. 78F350 will be mailing it in the morning.

Oh here I thought it came out with the gray tube. Alright thank you!
