This Boxster top relay is for 2000, 2001, 2002 2003 and 2004 Boxsters. It will not work in a 1997-1999 Boxster.

It worked fine when removed and I guarantee it will not be dead on arrival.

If you are looking for a top relay for a 1997 to 1999 Boxster you will need part number 986.618.111.02.
