That was a great deal. The part absolutely fixed the issue last winter on my 2000S.

ArmenT 11-27-2014 10:25 PM

Right, I don't have a popping out problem, but most of the time I need to apply more effort to engage 2nd gear without grinding noise(2001 986S 78K, fresh genuine Porsche transmission fluid). In some threads people say they get rid of the problem after installing Gbox detent, so hopping this will fix it. I think I should be able install it without removing transmission.
Thanks.

Sometime it can be a sign of the motor mount and transmission mounts going bad. I have a similar problem in the last few weeks and sure enough my motor mount is in bad shape. Rubber just goes bad after 12 years.

ArmenT 11-28-2014 10:52 AM

Agree,I replaced motor mount last year, when I both the car.It was bad, after removing it form car rubber core insert came out completely.I am thinking about transmission mounts as well, that something on my to do list.

dghii 11-29-2014 04:13 PM

You don't have to remove the transmission. This is one of those jobs that you start and think "No way!". Next thing you know, your done!

My car was on a lift. The toughest part was getting a strong enough magnet that wasn't too big to pull the old part out. It's tight working quarters but pretty straight forward.

ArmenT 11-29-2014 09:48 PM

I guess its should be easy, I already checked Gbox instruction and it says about installation on a car, looks ok to me.The only down side I don't have a lift in a garage and most of the time jack stand hight is the limit. Just ordered transmission mounts from fcpeuro web site,Rein mounts are on sale 15% till Monday. Couple weeks ago I did AOS and that was tight )
Thanks.

Thanks.

Waking up this old thread.
interested to know how the detent is holding up, and did it fix the seconds gear grinding issue.

dghii 12-17-2015 04:47 PM

I've got at least 10K on mile without any problems.

Thanks for the reply.
Thinking of putting one in the Boxster that started developing an accasional grind when shifting between first and second.

I've got one of these that I never have got around to installing. Here is the best DIY I was able to find, and it is on a Boxster too (a lot of them are for 996) Edit: Not on a Boxster after all dang it, there is one of these tutorials floating around on a Boxster but I can't find it right now.

I installed one on my car a few months ago and it works as intended, no more 2nd gear pop outs.

If you have gear grinding issue it may be a bad 2nd gear syncro.

ArmenT 12-21-2015 09:20 AM

It worked for me. There was a bit grinding on 2nd gear and engagement was a bit week. No more issues after I installed it.
