Would I be crazy to pain my rims black?
I have a 2000 Boxster S. I just recently got it, only has 16k miles on it and I love the car. I just don't really like the rims. I've seen some places where you can buy black paint for rims and I'm thinking of doing it. I've never done this kind of thing before but there's plenty of videos online on how to do it, I'm wondering though on people here's opinions on doing this. Would it be stupid to do this? I'm really just not a fan of the rims. Has anyone else here done something like this?

Those wheels look great on your car.
Black paint? Run away from that notion. Leave the wheels alone, and on the car... or source another set. Run from that black. |
Black, no.
Anthracite grey, maybe. PlastiDip is pretty amazing and easy to do and best of all, not permanent. |
It is your car and you can do whatever you want to it.
Black would look great. Just make sure you do all the prep work and paint them correctly. |
Just buy cheap brake pads and don't clean up the dust!
Seriously - I second plastidip - looks fine, not permanent, and just needs to be done on a clean wheel. |
Thanks for the PlastiDip tip guys, I think I'll try that out.

Why all the negativity towards black painted wheels? Too cliche?

I've got a set of black wheels on my silver 98. If I had a red car I'd go with the silver wheels. Black is so played out nowadays. Granted... the red/black combo does look good but, with so many other color choices... black is a snorefest.
With a silver car color choices are limited. With red... open season on colors. |
I like anthracite with the red.
