Myself, what that guy told you sounds like marketing speak, to believe what he's saying suggests that lower octane fuel would cause less buildup but premium fuels usually have the greatest detergency. Either way to suggest octane has a correlation to wear sounds like if anything he has it in reverse. The cars run smoother with higher octane.
